SUMMER CAMP
Charlie's Gift Summer Camp offers children the opportunity to participate in a summer camp that is sensitive to the difficulties and strengths of children on the Autism Spectrum. Our staff understand how typical summer camps can be frustrating, overwhelming, and/or unpleasant for a child with Autism.
Our camp offers a fun, relaxed setting where a camper can have fun while learning and developing many of the important skills of just "being a kid" and "being a friend." The camp is structured yet casual and filled with age-appropriate activities.
Summer Camp areas of focus include:
- Social skills
- Organizational skills
- Daily living skills
- Play skills
- Simple meal preparation
- Money skills
- Pre-vocational skills
- Games and recreation
- Playground and gym time
- Teamwork
Our summer camp requires that an application (see below) be completed and returned prior to registering. Once the application has been received by Charlie's Gift staff, an in-person or telephone interview will be conducted prior to a child being registered for the camp.
Summer Camp is held at The Community House and runs in weekly programs throughout the summer. Please check back for specific camp dates. Please contact Maureen O'Rourke if you have any questions at 630-323-7500 ext. 221 or MORourke@thecommunityhouse.org
